Start with the Desk in Working Position
Measure the desktop at its full width and depth, including any monitor arm, laptop stand and cables behind the surface. Check the chair while occupied and pulled back. A nearby pedestal or printer tray also needs its open position measured. These figures show the space that everyday work truly occupies before another feature enters the room.
Walk from the entrance to the seat while the chair remains in use. If someone may bring a drink, collect papers or enter during a call, leave that route unobstructed. Try the movement with a bag beside the desk and a drawer open. This simple rehearsal finds conflicts that an empty floor measurement can easily conceal.
